Things I want Tuesday #1

Because truth be told, I love to shop. Its a problem. Its an addiction. Its what it is. Oh well.... since I'm on a budget this is my way of rounding up the items that are dying must get into my closet!

Post Secret Sunday: #2

Post Secret Sunday #2: This secret stood out the most for me. Both men and women go through this every single day throughout the world we need more world recognition on this topic. This happening to one person is one too many.

3 things I Heart

I just fell head over heels in love with this print! It's officially been put on my "Must get" list. Another potential decor idea for my room revival.

Post Secret Sunday: #1

My favorite part about Sundays (besides grabbing coffee, study dates, & the occasional farmer's market run with the Boy) is waking up to a new batch of Post Secret online. Its the most therapeutic thing for anyone to do. To know that you are never alone in any of your secrets, because c'mon now we have a secret or two hiding in the closet.

Summer 2011

Sadly, summer is almost over, which means back to school, and back to work. I have less than a week of just laying around, hanging out with the boyfriend, and devouring books like a wolf. :) This past summer I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to work for a great program in DC and I had a great experience. I spent 5 weeks in DC as a literature instructor/RA/"mom" to 13 amazing and brilliant rising high school seniors. Here a few of the highlights (via photo form) of this summer.
4 of July fireworks by the Iwo Jima Memorial

More fireworks. It was a great night, minus the copious amounts of mosquitoes!

C&O Canal. One of my fave trails in DC.

More C&O Canal

Planking by the WWII Memorial

Washington Monument & the ugly reflecting pool...oh right...its under renovation :(

A failed attempt at staying cool at the Monticello and bug bite free.

Getting to walk out onto the balcony from which Obama and former US Presidents have given their inaugural speeches!

Visiting Princeton and falling in love all over with it. PhD Candidate?! I think so!
Not the most exciting pictures of this summer, but nevertheless the most significant for me. Dexter (my teddy bear) will be starting up his own blog in the coming days so excited! It was his first time to the East Coast. I promise his pictures will be more entertaining than mine.

Book 35 of 50

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

Nabokov I give you cred' for writing Lolita, however, the novel itself was rather disappointing. Humbert lacks personality and complexity for a protagonist. Well written in prose, but not befitting of all the rage and reviews you get. Yes, nymphets and sexuality are a huge theme throughout the book; it hardly merits being a top 100 novel list. Lolita herself is intriguing and merits more analysis than does Humbert. She is definitely on hyper-sexualized pre-pubescent twelve year-old. The topic of sexuality, sex, and age discrepancies does warrant attention and review, but not to the extent that it has already received.  On to my next book.

Final verdict: love Nabokov's writing style and the diction he uses, however Humbert lacks some serious character development. I will give him some shelf space on my bookcase and I hope that my future students will read this and make their own judgment on the novel.

Back on...

I took a few days off from maintaing my Tumblr, mostly because I was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed with the platform. Don't get me wrong I love Tumblr and its function, but not at the present moment. I decided to come back on blogspot so I could have a bit more control over my posts and format them differently. [I am also HTML illiterate, so this makes things harder for me.] I planned on transferring all of my posts from Tumblr over to Blogspot, but the process is time consuming and tedious. So I decided to just start semi-fresh on my new blog and begin posting new content.

I am coming up with a system for blogging and maintaing it so I don't get overwhelmed and all over the place. I also hope to use this space to start sharing some of my pieces that I've been working on the past few weeks.

Ciao!
